Difference in properties between functional and nonfunctional siRNA
The following table shows the results of comparing graph properties between functional and nonfunctional siRNA:
Average Vertex Difference Max Degree Set Min Degree Set Graph Diameter
Functional siRNA 1.200 {A=18, U=9, G=9, C=12} {A=9, U=16, G=18, C=14} 1.483
Nonfunctional siRNA 1.604 {A=26, U=16, G=24, C=24} {A=15, U=22, G=16, C=15} 1.686
Significance p<.05 p<.01 p<.01 NS

We see that the difference between functional and nonfunctional siRNA in regard to Vertex Difference and in regard to the Max and Min sets is significant. We conclude that the weighted graph structure encompasses important distinctive properties related to siRNA functionality. Therefore properties derived from a graph based model of siRNA show promise for rational design algorithms which will hopefully lead to healthcare applications of RNAi.
